The focus of the Rockaway Township Health Department is on disease prevention and education towards maintaining or adopting healthy behaviors.  To this end, a comprehensive schedule of health services and education programs is offered to the residents of Rockaway Township.

The mandate of the Health Department is to safeguard and improve the health of all Rockaway Township residents through education, screening, monitoring, and direct service programs.  
 

The Rockaway Township Health Department focuses on the following priority health issues:  

- Promoting healthy lives, especially for children, older people and underserved segments of the population;
- Monitoring and preventing infectious diseases and environmental threats;
- Coordinating with private and public entities that provide, regulate, finance, or otherwise affect the township’s health services;
- Creating and maintaining a health data collection system.

Public Health & Nursing

- Blood pressure screenings
- Blood Screening, (lipid profile, hemogram, glucose), to identify risk factors of heart disease and diabetes.
- Flu and pneumonia vaccines for seniors and high risk individuals
- Well Baby Clinics – A program for infants and preschool children without insurance coverage for vaccines (regardless of financial status).
 
- Female and Male Cancer Screenings
- Home visits to the frail elderly and homebound
- Communicable Disease prevention and control

- Senior Stretch/Yoga/AFEP/Chair Yoga
- Tai Chi Classes


Animal Control
 


- Stray animals should be reported to the Health Department at 973-983-2848/2849 - Outside of normal business hours, please contact the Police Department at (973) 625-4000.
- Free rabies vaccination clinics – we sponsor free annual rabies clinics for dogs and cats, twice yearly.
- Licensing of dogs and cats
- Lost Pets

NOTE: Animals are available for adoption 7 days after the impound date listed on their description

- Inspection rating plaques are posted at each retail food establishment. Patrons may request to review the most recent inspection report which is kept on site of each establishment.

Report complaints to the Health Department during regular working hours. Emergency complaints should be reported to the Police.

Know What to Do About the Flu

·         Cover your cough

·         Wash your hands frequently

·         If you have a fever, stay home for at least 24 hrs after that fever has ended

·         Get a vaccine when it becomes available
