Responsibilities

The Tax Collector's Office in Rockaway Township is a division of the Finance Department and is charged with the:

  • Billing
  • Collection
  • Reporting and enforcement of taxes
  • Sewer maintenance fees
  • Special assessments

The Township is using Estimated Tax Billing for the 3rd quarter, August 1 payment. Estimated Tax Bills will be released before June 30 and will due August 1. The final tax bill will be released before September 30.

The tax rate is usually received in July and the final tax bill is based on a calendar year and due quarterly. The final tax bill includes 4 coupons, indicating the amount due and the due date for each quarter. All quarters have a 10- calendar day grace period. Tax Bill Information (PDF)

Sewer Maintenance

Sewer maintenance are billed annually, based on a calendar year. The billing is for properties that are connected to Rockaway Township Sewer Lines. 

2025 Sewer Maintenance Bills will be mailed on or about May 16, 2025. Payments will be due by June 27, 2025 without penalties.
This bill covers property owners from 1/1/2025 to 12/31/2025.
 

Sewer Assessments

Sewer assessments for Sewer/Water are also billed annually, according to due date which is established by an Ordinance.


Property Tax Relief

Per N.J.S.A. 54:4-64 - Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the owner from paying property taxes and any delinquent interest that accrues from late payments. 

 Per N.J.S.A. 40A:5-15 – payments must be deposited within 48 hours of receipt. Please do not postdate your check. Payment will be posted and deposited on day of receipt. The Township is not liable for any fees that may incur from our and your bank if payment is returned. 

 Per N.J.S.A. 54:4-67 - Property owners be advised that if your account (tax, water, sewer or other municipal charges) becomes delinquent at the end of the year and is over $10,000 (principal and interest) the property will be charged a 6% year end penalty.
