In an effort to be proactive about Coronavirus, the Rockaway Township Tax and Sewer departments are moving to technology based services effective immediately. Please email with any questions and someone will get back to you via email as soon as possible. Please make every attempt to make payments online at . Please be very careful entering in your account information. For any resident with a senior freeze application that needs our verification, there are envelopes located outside of the front doors of the municipal building. Verification forms can be put into an envelope and placed in the drop box. We will collect the forms and return them to you as soon as possible. This is to protect members of the public and township employees from exposure to the virus.


The Tax Collector's Office in Rockaway Township is a division of the Finance Department and is charged with the:
  • Billing
  • Collection
  • Reporting and enforcement of taxes
  • Sewer maintenance fees
  • Special assessments
Taxes are billed annually in July, based on a calendar year and due quarterly. The tax bill includes 4 coupons, indicating the amount due and the due date for each quarter. All quarters have a 10-day grace period with the exception of the 3rd quarter (August) which is due 25 days from the date the bills are mailed. Tax Bill Information (PDF)

Sewer Maintenance

Sewer maintenance are billed annually, based on a calendar year. The billing is for properties that are connected to Rockaway Township Sewer Lines. 
2019 Sewer Maintenance Bills were mailed on or about May 24, 2019.
Payments are due by June 24, 2019 without penalties.

Sewer Assessments

Sewer assessments for Sewer/Water are also billed annually, according to due date which is established by an Ordinance.

Property Tax Relief

For information regarding the State of New Jersey's Property Tax Reimbursement (Property Freeze) program or Homestead Rebate program offered to qualified homeowners please view Property Tax Relief (PDF).

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the owner from paying property taxes and any delinquent interest that accrues from late payments per N.J.S.A. 54:4-64.

Property owners be advised that if your account (tax, water, sewer or other municipal charges) becomes delinquent at the end of the year and is over $10,000 (principal and interest) the property will be charged a 6% year end penalty.
