Each year, approximately $675 billion is earmarked for programs and services that many of us use in our local community. Federal grants for fire and first aid equipment is based in part on Census count, as is dollars for many social programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, education, road and bridge improvements, National School Lunch programs etc. In addition, seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are reapportioned every 10 years, and New Jersey cannot afford to lose another seat, as it did after the 2010 Census.
