Dear Rockaway Township Community,
Unfortunately, we are in an unprecedented time, which is new to all of us, as we are experiencing a Pandemic caused by COVID-19. Since the operation of our Municipal Government is considered essential, I want to assure our community, that all of our employees are working hard to continue to serve Rockaway Township, even in the middle of an officially declared state of emergency.
The Township has set up a webpage which contains the latest information we receive about the virus, which is changing almost daily. The webpage includes instructions and is updated to include the latest number of confirmed cases in the Township as they are reported to our Health Department.
The Administration has been working and coordinating our efforts with State, County and local officials as well as assisting our health care professionals, all of which allows us to keep abreast of new developments. In addition, Rockaway Township has donated over 2,000 masks which will be distributed to our health care professionals.
At the last council meeting, held on March 24, 2020, which was open to the public; available by a WebEx call in number; and, by YouTube streaming, the Township Budget was introduced with a reduction in the municipal portion of the tax bill. The staff and I along with the Township Council worked very hard to produce a budget to provide this reduction in taxes for the community without reducing any of the great services that the residents appreciate and rely upon. The adoption of the budget and public comment is scheduled to be on the Township Council agenda on April 28, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. If there is still a state of emergency at that time, the Council meeting will be held electronically and by weblink for which a telephone call-in number will be made available to all residents at a later date.
Please, please follow the recommendations and stay home and keep social distance. We all need to work together to win the war against COVID-19. We have a great community and I am proud to be your Mayor. I am confident that we will all work together to get through this difficult time.
I want to thank you all for your patience and cooperation.
Wishing and praying you stay well.
Mayor Michael Puzio
